Fear of the unknown is real. Race relations can be improved if we begin to break down barriers and learn about each other. Learning about the experiences of my ancestry was an amazing experience. I am sharing the information I gleaned from countless uncles, aunts, and cousins.
In retrospect, I realized that I was the little black girl who went to work with the maid (my aunt) to be a playmate for the rich white lady's daughter. I lived through the 50's and 60's without understanding the relevance of the times. I became one of the first students on a bus to promote integration in my city. I'm sharing books in the simplest form, as children books. They cover a range of ideas, but have a positive and optimistic view.
Start with "My Daddy Left Me Millions" as a look at a slave ancestry, then move to "Old John" to get my attitude about a great grand-father who was a run-away slave. The other stories tell about people living difficult lives and emerging as victors. You'll enjoy Care-O Books.
